Cribbing Project
The cribbing update project has officially been completed! This project standardized all cribbing across the rigs to ensure consistency and reliability. Any pieces in poor condition were replaced, all cribbing was cut to the same length, the outside edges were painted, webbing straps were added, and each box’s assortment was confirmed.
Each in-service engine should now have two crib boxes.
Each crib box contains:
10 pieces of 4x4 cribbing (24" in length)
4 wedges
1 ground plate
Some have asked about the purpose of the painted edges. The paint serves as a visual reminder that when stacking cribbing, each piece should be set 3.5 inches in from the perpendicular piece. This marking identifies the “no-go” zone and helps you slide cribbing into place rather than rolling it in. See the attached photos for an example.
All properly sized cribbing should have painted ends and a webbing strap. If you find a piece missing these or needing replacement, there’s a small replacement stack in the hose tower at Station 1.
Please reach out with any questions. Thanks to everyone for helping keep our cribbing consistent and ready for use!
