Important Condell message Continued
Good afternoon,
I am sharing critical updates to our SOPs and protocols that require your immediate attention. These changes have been implemented and are now live. It is essential that all medics review and understand these updates.
Key Updates:
Ketamine Dosage for Behavioral Emergencies
Dosage will now be calculated using ideal body weight based on the patient’s height, age (adult), and sex assigned at birth.
A reference chart should be used for every patient receiving Ketamine for behavioral emergencies.
Dosage remains 4mg/kg with a maximum single dose of 300mg, using the 500mg/10ml vial.
Important: Dosing Ketamine based on actual/estimated weight is no longer valid.
Pediatric Airway Management
Quicktrach Removal: Pediatric Quicktrach has been removed from the protocol.
For patients under 10 years old: Perform needle cricothyrotomy as a last resort using the following supplies:
10-14G IV catheter
Adapter from a 3.0 ETT
10ml syringe
Tricia will refresh everyone on this skill during February’s live CE. Ensure all Quicktrach devices are removed from vehicles.
Education and Resources:
A PowerPoint presentation has been uploaded to Vector Solutions in the following locations:
MABAS File Center
Antioch under AFD EMS Training folder
Trish will cover these changes again during live CE in February, but please ensure you review them now.
Next Steps:
Medics: Review the education materials and begin utilizing these changes immediately.
Let me know if you experience any issues accessing the materials or have questions about the updates.
Thank you for your prompt attention to these significant changes.
Best regards, Frankie
