Monthly Spiritual Reflection October
Moving into October there are several observances to keep in mind both religious and secular as we serve our community of people with diverse needs and backgrounds. They include:
October 3 – NavratriThis ten-day Hindu festival celebrates the Goddess Durga and is a major crop season event. Each day a new goddess is worshiped and changing of Hindu scriptures occurs as well as a period of fasting.
October 3-4* – Rosh HashanahThese two Jewish holy days remember the time that the world was created. It marks the 10 Days of Awe that focuses on repenting and reflection.
October 12* – Yom KippurThis is one of the most important Jewish high holy days. The 10 Days of Awe period commemorates Yom Kippur which focuses on asking for forgiveness for your sins. During biblical times, this was the only day that a high priest could enter the most sacred part of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Also known as the Day of Atonement.
October 17 – 23 – SukkotThis 7-day holiday commemorates when Jews journeyed through the desert to the promised land.
October 31 – November 4 – DiwaliThis Hindu Festival of Lights symbolizes the fight of good over evil and its victory. It is celebrated by Sikhs, Hindus, Jains, and mostly Newar Buddhists.
Sat., Oct. 12, 2024, the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff coinciding with the Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession at the Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial Park in Wisconsin
Rapids, which is hosted by the Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial, and in honor of Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day.
The International Association for Healthcare Safety & Security (IAHSS) celebrates healthcare security and safety professionals; and the critical role they play in serving healthcare facilities, personnel, patients and visitors.The theme for Healthcare Security and Safety Week 2024 is "It Takes a TEAM to Lead, Prevent and Intervene." It recognizes the importance of security and safety in healthcare and acknowledges the strong commitment, diligence and care officers display in their practice and profession. Show your support and appreciation for Healthcare Security and Safety Officers and thank them next time you are in a healthcare facility!
