The District regularly recruits new firefighters for crews at our three fire stations. Antioch is an all-hazards department and firefighters on our crews must hold a firefighter certification and EMT license through the state of Illinois. Applicants can receive certification when they are hired. New crew members begin their careers at Antioch as part-time firefighters, and the District promotes full-time crew members from its part-time roster. While the Department helps qualified applicants receive necessary certifications, Antioch requires the following: Be at least 18 years old A High school diploma (or equivalent) Completion of a physical assessment test Applicants who are selected for employment also must pass a drug screening test, a medical physical, and a background check. Fire Prevention Resources: Building Inspections and Open Burn Information Residents and businesses must secure permits related to specific renovations, building updates, or to assess a building’s safety for occupancy. Residents and businesses also must abide by codes that enforce open burning in the area. The First Fire Protection District / Antioch Fire Department enforces all fire codes for the District. The department also manages the permit application and approval process. Antioch Requires Businesses to Apply for a Hazardous Substance Management Permit Contractors or businesses who manage hazardous substances must apply for a permit for such activities. The Antioch Fire Department Fire Prevention Code outlines the application process and details which hazardous substances require a permit related to on-site management. Our District is unique in that Antioch does not employ a full-time fire department staff; instead our crew of 90 alternate shifts, ensuring a fully operational emergency response crew that manages calls 24/7. Meet our long-term crew members and our chief! Fire Chief Ian Kazian The First Fire Protection District of Antioch is excited to welcome its new Fire Chief, Ian Kazian. Chief Kazian brings over 30 years of fire service experience and education to the department. Chief Kazian is excited about joining the outstanding personnel at the fire district and looks forward to getting to know the community.
