Formed on March 13, 1913 by members of the community who recognized the need for fire protection; the Antioch Fire Department wishes to invite the community to come out and celebrate the centennial on September 14th, 2013; as the Department hosts it’s street dance on Toft Street between Orchard & Lake from 5:00pm-Midnight.
This location has quite the historical significance; what is now the Village Hall served as the Fire Station and played host to numerous dances, and the road itself was named for Raymond Toft, past Mayor and member of the Department.
Last year the department hosted the “99 year” dance in preparation for the centennial; with things going very well for the most part, and those areas that needed to be addressed have been; according to Fire Chief John Nixon “ Last year’s event was a success, and we have built upon that effort for this year. We have added a few more local food vendors to address one area of concern from last year.” New this year will be Antioch’s very own Wings Etc. along with La Fogata and BBQ’d Productions.
There are not one, but TWO bands providing entertainment for the event this year; The Modern Day Romeo’s and Bella Cain will alternate sets; providing for continuous music throughout the event, and 95 WIIL rock’s Tom Keif has signed on to serve as the MC for the event. “Thanks in large part to the gracious sponsorship from Raymond Chevrolet & The Deli Source we have increased the size of the stage to accommodate both of these great bands” added FF. Mark Sural who serves as one of the members on the committee responsible for planning the street dance.
The Antioch Firefighters Association has been instrumental in planning the numerous centennial events; and the street dance is part of the ongoing event schedule. Association President Kevin Hajduk added, “Thanks to the work of the committee and the members of the Association; we have an event planned that the community can look forward to in the future. Last year we collaborated with the Village and held the Fireworks, and based on the turnout we wanted to continue the event.”
Please mark your calendars and plan to join the both past and current members of the Antioch Fire Department as they host this event to celebrate their Centennial.
